UK Student Visa – Study in the UK

If you’ve been offered a place at a UK educational institution, you may be eligible to apply for a Student Visa to live and study in the UK. At TD Immigration, we provide expert legal guidance to help students prepare strong applications and meet all visa requirements with confidence.

Who Can Apply?

You can apply for a UK Student Visa if:

  • You are 16 or older
  • You have been offered a place on a course by a licensed Student Sponsor (e.g. university, college)
  • You can speak, read, write, and understand English to the required level
  • You have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course
  • You meet all the relevant immigration requirements and intend to study full-time in the UK

Key Requirements

  1. Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
You must have an unconditional offer of a place on a course from a licensed Student Sponsor. The institution will issue a CAS number, which is required for your application.
  2. Financial Requirement
You must show you have enough funds to:
    • Pay your first year of tuition fees in full
    • Cover living costs:
      • £1,334/month for courses in London (for up to 9 months)
      • £1,023/month for courses outside London
    • Funds must be held in your name for at least 28 consecutive days before you apply

  1. English Language Requirement
You must prove your English proficiency via:
    • An approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) (e.g. IELTS for UKVI)
    • A qualification equivalent to GCSE, A level, Scottish National Qualification, or a UK degree
    • Exemption applies if you're from an English-speaking country

  1. Parental Consent (if under 18)
Applicants aged 16 or 17 must provide written consent from a parent or guardian.
  2. Genuine Student Requirement
You must show that you are a genuine student with a clear academic progression plan and intent to study.

What Can You Do on a Student Visa?

  • Study full-time at a licensed institution
  • Work part-time during term (up to 20 hours/week) and full-time during holidays (if permitted)
  • Extend your visa or switch into certain other visa categories (e.g. Graduate Visa) after course completion

Visa Validity

  • Valid for the duration of your course, plus additional time at the end (usually 2–4 months)
  • You may apply to extend your visa for further study or apply for a Graduate Visa to remain in the UK and work for up to 2 years after completing your degree
