Child Visa – Bringing Your Child to the UK

Who Can Apply?
This route is for children who:
- Are under 18 years old at the date of application
- Are applying to join a parent who is:
- A British citizen, settled in the UK (e.g. ILR or Settled Status), or
- Has limited leave to remain (on certain routes such as a partner or parent visa)
- Are not married or in a civil partnership, and do not live independently
- Will be adequately supported and accommodated in the UK without access to public funds
If only one parent is in the UK, the application must show either:
- The UK-based parent has sole responsibility for the child’s upbringing, or
- There are serious or compelling family reasons for the child to join the UK-based parent
Key Requirements
- Proof of the child’s relationship to the UK-based parent (e.g. birth certificate, court orders)
- Evidence that the UK parent has adequate accommodation and can financially support the child
- In most cases, the parent must also meet the minimum income requirement (same as for partner/parent routes)
- The child must intend to live permanently with the parent in the UK
Visa Duration and Conditions
- Visas are typically granted in line with the parent’s immigration status
- The child will usually have the same right to stay, work, and study as the parent
- The visa may lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain depending on the parent’s pathway
