Child Student Visa – Study at a UK Independent School
The Child Student Visa allows children aged 4 to 17 to study at an independent school in the UK. At TD Immigration, we support families throughout the application process, ensuring full compliance with UK immigration requirements and a smooth transition for the child.
Who Can Apply?
Your child may be eligible to apply for a Child Student Visa if:
- They are between 4 and 17 years old
- They have been offered a place at a licensed independent school in the UK
- There are suitable arrangements for their care and accommodation in the UK
- They can be financially supported for the duration of their stay
- They are not a British citizen and are applying from outside the UK
Note: Children under 18 cannot study at state schools on this visa.
Key Requirements
Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
The child must receive a CAS number from the licensed independent school confirming their place on an eligible full-time course of study.
Financial Requirement
You must show evidence that the child’s tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses can be covered:
- £1,560 per month for up to 9 months if living independently in London
- £1,015 per month outside London
- If living with a parent/guardian on a Parent Visa, the financial threshold is lower
- Funds must have been held for at least 28 consecutive day
Parental Consent
You must submit written consent from both parents (or one with sole responsibility) covering:
- Travel, living arrangements, and care in the UK
- Visa application and study plans
Accommodation and Care Arrangements
Adequate care must be arranged during the child’s stay, including boarding school accommodation or staying with an approved UK guardian.
Visa Duration and Conditions
- Visa is granted for the duration of the course, plus time before/after
- Children aged 16 or over may work part-time (maximum 10 hours/week during term)
- Children under 16 cannot work
- Visa holders cannot access public funds
- You cannot switch to a different visa category while in the UK on this visa
- Parents of children under 12 may apply separately for a Parent of a Child Student Visa to accompany them
