Family Reunion Visas

If you have been granted refugee status or humanitarian protection in the UK, you may be eligible to bring your close family members to join you under the Family Reunion route. At TD Immigration, we offer expert legal support to help reunite families and ensure applications are handled with care and precision.

Who Can Apply for a Family Reunion Visa?

Family Reunion visas are designed to allow immediate family members of individuals granted asylum or humanitarian protection in the UK to join them. The applicant must be outside the UK at the time of application.

Eligible family members include:

  • Spouse or civil partner
  • Unmarried partner (if you’ve lived together for at least two years before separation)
  • Children under 18 who were part of the family unit before the sponsor fled to the UK

Note: Parents or siblings are generally not eligible under this route unless exceptional compassionate circumstances apply.

Key Requirements

To qualify, the applicant must demonstrate that:

  • Their family relationship existed before the sponsor fled their country of origin
  • They remain in a genuine family relationship
  • They are currently outside the UK
  • The UK sponsor has refugee status or humanitarian protection
  • The application is made within the sponsor’s protection period (usually within 5 years of status being granted)

Children must:

  • Be under 18 at the date of application
  • Not be leading an independent life, married, or in a civil partnership
  • Be applying to join both parents, or the only surviving/sole parent in the UK

There is no application fee, and applicants do not need to meet English language or financial requirements. However, evidence must be provided to confirm the relationship and living arrangements prior to separation.

How We Can Help

While the requirements may appear straightforward, Family Reunion applications are often refused due to insufficient or unclear evidence of the relationship or family history — especially in cases where documents are difficult to obtain due to conflict, displacement, or loss.

Our experienced immigration lawyers will:

  • Help gather and organise supporting evidence (even where documents are limited)
  • Draft detailed legal representations to explain your case clearly to the Home Office
  • Guide you through the online application and biometric enrolment process
  • Advise on any additional routes if your family member does not qualify under the standard criteria
  • Assist with appeal options if your Family Reunion application has been refused

We understand how emotionally sensitive these applications can be. Our team offers compassionate, responsive, and expert support throughout the entire process.
